A Lost Day
January 7, 2017, Sunday
Unbelievable! We slept through Ausha’s Saturday night and all through it’s Sunday until 5:30 p.m. We might have slept longer had I not awakened John and told him how long we had slept. He couldn’t believe I was correct and went out to make sure it wasn’t just 5:30 a.m. The truth was that we had slept right through Sunday, so instead of getting up and having breakfast, we went out on the garden terrace and ordered dinner, chicken peanut stew, rice and greens. John also got a fruit plate, the food he loves most here. I was amused that monkeys were racing up and down the metal roof, sounds we never enjoy in Spokane.
After dinner, I saw that Mama Kundayo was waiting to greet me, so there were lots of hugs and promises to get together tomorrow to talk as we did almost daily last year. I certainly hope Sharro will be with us to translate, as my Swahili is still as lacking as mama’s English is.
It feels so good to be here again. We will try to stay awake until nearly midnight so we can begin to get our sleep and awake times in order soon. I certainly do not want to sleep through tomorrow. We have a lot of grocery shopping and business to do.
Oh, so far, I have gotten only one mosquito bite.
